Barcelo Solymar, Cuba

Reviewed by "Relaxing in Cuba" -2002

Hi Maria,

Thanks!

I had a good vacation. Everything went really smooth. No problems what so ever. Thank you!

The Solymar was nice about a 3+ star on our standards. It was one of the nicer resorts from what I could see from the outside looking in. The food was ok but kind of gross until you got used to. I think that is just the way it is in Cuba from what I heard from people staying in other resorts.

I guess I didn't starve since I didn't lose very much if any weight at all. Must have been the rum ice-cream everyday for 2 weeks straight!

The staff were very friendly and the resort was very clean. weather was hot for at least 10 days. I was there for the hurricane we had about 3-4 days at the end of the trip that were not so good.

I was disappointed with the activities at the hotel. In particular the physical activities and the gym. Half of the equipment didn't work and there was no air conditioning in the gym. This made it difficult to work out when it was so hot.

The shows in the evening the second week were very good. The first week was poor. Maybe because the resort was not too full?

Mostly couples the first week...perhaps because there were many weddings on the long weekend. A few more singles the second week but not a lot. I meet great people any ways. Lots of Europeans and South Americans.

I did three tours. They were all top notch. I found the tours better than in Mexico.

I spoke to a few people who stayed at the Breezes Varadero and said it was excellent.

Thanks again for your assistance and I will recommend your services to my friends and colleagues.
