Club Med, Turks and Caicos

Reviewed by Sherry-Outside Sales Agent-2007

As promised, here’s a few observations from our trip to Club Med Turquoise:

  • “Freezies” served on the beach on hot days (staff roam around with a large bag full of freezies & scissors).

  • “Crazy Signs” done every evening after the 10pm Entertainment/Show. What happened to the signature “Club Med Crazy Sign – Hands up”??? I miss that one! Maybe it’s aging me and they don’t do that one anymore!

  • “Foam Party” at Sharkie’s Bar & Grill on the beach! Lots of fun! Usually done late at night but depending on weather, may get moved to mid-afternoon which happened to us.

  • Work-Out room is air-conditioned. Has great equipment! Treadmills, weights, etc.

  • Bars serve canned beer!

  • Bars serve Cosmo Martini’s (in cute plastic martini glasses)!

  • Circus “Trapeze” Workshops twice daily (morning and late afternoon).

  • Beach has lots of thatched roof huts. However, if none available for you, then you can get beach umbrellas from the front desk to plunk into the sand!

  • Buffet Restaurant has 3 separate dining rooms. One is reserved specifically for “singles”. Tables are all for 8. Blush and Red Wine bottles on each table. White Wine is chilled in the fridge by the pop machines and draft beer.

  • “The Grille” Specialty Restaurant is open 3 nights per week only. Schedule changed weekly (Sundays). Check board on front desk for schedule. Book at 7am the day prior. By 8am it is sold-out! Very difficult to get in so make it your first priority to get this booked!

  • “Dress Code” displayed at the entrance to the Buffet Restaurant. Mannequins with sample dress code changed daily. Examples: African wear, White & Jeans, Flowers & Jeans, etc. Just something fun. Don’t have to follow it.

  • Activity sheet for next day is slipped under your door the evening prior.

  • Staff roam the pool area with Fruit Platters on hot days (ex. Pineapple wedges, watermelon, etc.)

  • Food selection at “The Grille” specialty restaurant is a’ la carte. Choose: soup or salad, appetizer, choice of one of 3 entrees, cheese platter, choice of one of 3 desserts. Lobster is served here (not at the Buffet Restaurant). Excellent food. Nice ambiance (boathouse style theme).

  • Can purchase “White Chocolate Bread” for USD $5.00 per loaf, reserved 48 hours in advance, take home gift. Club Med’s Chocolate Bread (White Chocolate and Dark Chocolate loaves) are amazing! I remembered it from 13 years ago! And still think it’s the best!

  • You can book the photographer for a “photo shoot” package. Wish I would have noticed this earlier as I would have done it for sure!

  • Photographer roams the resort taking pictures. Available for viewing on the bulletin board outside the photographer’s office. Can also view on the TV via their computer program at their office. Pictures are 4x6 for USD $10.00 each or 5x7 for USD $12.00. They also offer other sizes (wallets, etc.).

  • “Sailing Armada” is once per week. Saturday’s. Must reserve in advance as limited space. Approximately 24 people only. 6 Hobie Cats/Catamaran’s (4 persons each). Entire afternoon. Sail out convoy-style to a small island for beach picnic, island tour, snorkeling, shell picking. Lots of fun!

  • “Sharkie’s” Beach Bar & Grill serves snacks throughout the day. Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Pizza, Nachos & Cheese, French Fries, Fruit Bowl, Caesar Salad.

  • Village is located 15 minutes, by car, from the PLS airport.

  • Chef de Village is “Ayal”. Great guy! We saw him greeting guests everywhere all the time ... even on our arrival at 9pm! I don’t think he ever sleeps!

  • 10pm Evening Entertainment/Shows are excellent. Lots of fun! Examples: Pirate Show, Tennis Comedy, Circus Show, Beach Party, etc.

  • Beware of “Sand Fleas”. They are “no-see-um’s”! Looks like a tiny little speck of dust! But bite just like mosquito’s! Can buy “Off” from the Club Med Boutique. Suggest clients bring their own and spray themselves when going to the beach. Especially if they plan on making out on the beach! Also, bring Benadryl. It helped with our bites (takes the itch away).

  • It’s a 45 minute walk down Grace Bay Beach to the “Beaches Resort’. However, their beach sucks! Very cramped! Very busy! Very narrow! Club Med, by far, has the best location on Grace Bay Beach! Their beach rocks!

  • Food at the Buffet Restaurant is fantastic. Lots of selection! Great quality! Theme’s change every night (ex. Asian, Italian, American, International, Gala, etc.). I was really impressed with the food. I have been to so many all-inclusive’s and they get boring! Club Med has done a great job! Kudo’s to the Club Med chef’s!

  • Rooms are all newly renovated. Absolutely beautiful! I would definitely rate the rooms equivalent to about a 4 – 4.5 *. See pictures in my webshots photo album that I emailed you the link for. Rooms have coffee maker, safe, hair dryer, TV, CD/Radio Alarm clock, mini-fridge, lots of clothing storage, glass shower. Very beautiful. Unfortunately no balconies though.

  • Public Areas (theatre, main bar, etc) will be renovated and should be completed in 1 – 1.5 years. We told Ayal (Chef de Village) that we wanted to come back, he said to wait 1.5 years if we wanted to see his new reno’s. However, it is beautiful anyway, so who know’s, we may be back sooner!

  • September is “hottest” month.

  • October is “rainiest” month.

  • Village is for adults-only (18 years +).

  • Age group is really varied! Lots of 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s! Met lots of families as well. Parents taking their 20 year old children for a family holiday!

  • Montreal has a WestJet charter so lots of Quebecer’s.

  • Really fun village! I am definitely going back!

  • And much much more!

Special Note: It has been 13 years since my only other Club Med experience. I had gone to Club Med Cancun on a travel agent fam. It was good to go again because Club Med has really evolved over the years. The accommodations are far more superior! As well, it is no longer JUST for the young party punks! It really is an all-inclusive for everybody. The adults-only villages are not the “get drunk and stupid and sleezy” clubs anymore. The “fun” and “party atmosphere” is still there but it’s classier and older now. It is still great for the young people but also great for those of us in our 30’s and 40’s that love to party and have a good time. My parents are young-at-heart (50’s) and I know they would love it! I feel much more confident offering this as a travel option to ANY of my clients. Honestly! I know that previously I had only “selectively” offered Club Med to certain clients. Now … I will offer it to anyone.
