What a fun vacation - Here is our view, from the family with young kids perspective:
- it really is a family resort. there are kids EVERYWHERE. even so, the stressful times were self-induced stress, worrying for potentially adult only neighbors when adam was crying. talking to other families with young kids, we all felt the same way - but seriously, if you mind crying, then don't go to a family resort......
- the mini club, if we had used them, would have been awesome. i spoke with ana and saw the setup and talked about activities. i would have totally left henry AND adam there if it ever worked out. people left their kids there at nap time, and that would have been awesome if i could get adam to nap on his own. the nap room there is nice, and you are always connected to the sitters. there are a tonne of activites, but henry wanted to hang out with us. i think 4-5 is a good age to leave them, and the kids really do have fun. ana said the youngest they watched was 2.5 months old - so they are ready for babies too!
- there is a small playground and kiddie pool that we used. it was a small area, good for henry, but maybe too small for older kids. also, if it was more crowded, it would have been annoying - but not many of us were there at the same time.
- pool was cold, we barely spent any time there - just like the rest of the vacationers who just sunned by the pool or did the beach thing
- beach was awesome, no issues getting chairs (but then we were at the beach by 9:30 am......)
- food - here is where we went zero-stress and only did the buffet for all 3 meals. there was enough variety for a week anyways. we met people that did a couple of restaurants and though they felt stress having young kids there, the staff were very accomodating for the kids and stress didn't last long.
- staff - no complaints at all. the mini bar was restocked daily before lunch. adam napped a lot in the room (he went from 2 naps a day at home, to 4 shorter naps a day here.....), so it was often hard for housekeeping to find a time when she could clean - she kept coming to try though - we appreciated her perserverance! at the buffet, the staff were mega doting and it was nice to have people who "knew" what we needed when we walked in
- lots of places to hang out besides our room - lounge with couches, playground/kiddie pool, go for walks, games area - these were nice when one kid was sleeping and the other wasn't. when adam napped, i ended up in the room a bit, and there was the balcony or couch that i read or knitted on - i was prepared for this, so it didn't bother me that i spent so much time in our room. at night, when the kids were asleep, the couch area is where kris and i hung out and that worked well.
we met people that had the "family concierge" and while it could have been nice for the "extras" for the kids, i dont' think we missed it - actually, the internet access might have been nice, and chocolate milks in the fridge for henry.
"royal service" included a private pool and these 2 areas had beach areas close to the bar - again, not really missed by us. if i was alone with kris, royal service would be a good option, to really be more secluded.
so all in all, a very nice resort, excellent service, and super duper for families with young kids (or at least for our first time in an all-inclusive family resort).
Thanks Sherry! We were pretty happy with this vacation!
